In the last couple of articles that I have published, I have hinted to the fact that I am expanding my business into other areas, for which I am not very versed in yet. Of course, I am doing the research required to find out what it takes to venture into those other areas, but as exciting and thrilling as it seems, the daunting, almost sickening feeling to go forward is somewhat hard to explain.
What I mean is, if you visualize what and where you are currently navigating through, it feels like a haze, like a dark room filled with cobwebs, with a spotlight on you! You don’t get to see very well what’s around you, but everybody is watching what you do and how you do it! Therefore, the more I venture into this business development, the more it feels like it, especially if you are doing this on your own and your knowledge still somehow limited. Venturing out into something new is not for the fainted-heart!
My mentor was visiting us this past weekend and he mentioned something very profound. He said to me, “Are you looking at the whole picture? Or are you living in the “now”, only caught up in the immediate moment? You should be looking at the space in between? Are you listening and looking at the background and understanding what it means?” Then, he added, “if you look at the totality, the background, and not the foreground, of what you are trying to do, things will make more sense. If you delude yourself in the daily, you will miss opportunities and perhaps your window for success.”
WHAT? I asked myself and I asked him, what does this all mean in the context of what I’m trying to do? He said, “stop, look, listen and analyze the background of what is going on, to understand where you need to go and the potential opportunities around you.”
As an entrepreneur type-A, this is very hard for me to do, but it seems like a necessary thing to do. I am still struggling with the concept, and I am not even sure I understand it all, but I am trying. I will probably struggle with this one for a while!
This article is short and open for interpretation and of course discussion, since the whole thing still in its infancy, at least for me, go ahead and send me your thoughts! This forum will remain open as long as it needs to be. As usual, I will continue to keep some comments private, as requested by some of our readers!
